Archives and favorite works from a few of the earliest photographers have stayed together and are headed for public view and sale. Family papers from the 19th-century British innovator William Henry Fox Talbot are on the market, priced at millions of dollars for the group; Paris institutions have lent stacks of prints from the French photographer Charles Marville to an exhibition that opens on Sept. 29 at the National Gallery of Art in Washington; and, here in New York, photos and negatives from the 1850s by the French photographer Charles Nègre, which had long belonged to his descendants, go on display on Tuesday at the Hans P. Kraus Jr. gallery.
