Cait Byrnes, Assistant Director, will be visiting MICA to discuss The Feminist Art Project – Baltimore (TFAPB) is a grassroots, nomadic, non-profit arts incubator that supports and promotes self-identified women in the arts. Locally, they have been operating since the Fall of 2013, providing free opportunities to Baltimore artists and communities. TFAPB is an active arm of an international organization –The Feminist Art Project* — and a Fusion Partnerships Inc. partner. They frequently collaborate with individuals, local non-profits and community organizations that parallel our mission, interest and passion, in order to enrich our public exhibitions and community programs. TFAPB memberships and opportunities are not exclusively for women; they welcome additional collaboration from our supportive male allies.
The Feminist Art Project will also conduct on-campus interviews for their internship position! This position is ideal for someone interested in community arts and organizing, feminism, and arts non-profit work.

We are so pleased to announce that the new “FLEX SPACE” is now open in the MICA Photography Department. This space was opened up as a result of the color darkroom overhaul. This new space features two new state-of-the-art digital projectors mounted to display on opposite walls. This will allow for a dedicated space to feature the screening of student videos, a space for performances, as well as serving as a lecture and film presentation space.
The majority of the use of this new space will serve as an “overflow” area for studio-based photography. Since we have many students enrolled in the current “Studio Lighting” course, this space will allow other students additional access to shoot in a controlled studio environment. You can now sign up for up to three hours of shooting time in the new space. The Flex-Space studio reservation sign-up book is now available in the photo crib. Please see the crib manager on duty to reserve a time to work in the new space. Please come see the new space, and get ready to make some amazing work!
We are proud to announce that we have now posted the newly updated MICA Photography Department Black and White Film Photography Handbook. This new update features new graphics, and helpful information on processing both negatives and prints. This digital manual is now at your fingertips, so please go to the “Photography Department Handbook” link to access the new guide online.
We are also happy to announce the we now have available for checkout (in the Photo Crib) two new “Dynalite Baja Portable Electronic Flash” kits. These are portable battery powered kits with two monolight heads that are 400ws each (at full power). Take these kits on location wherever you want to shoot, and need more light…remote synch, no need for an outlet, or power cord! The pdf manual is now posted on our blog under the “Camera, Flash and Light Meter Guides” heading on the right side of the home page.
