The part-time photography instructor provides instruction for the following Visual Arts Department classes: Black and White Film Photography and Photography Senior Elective for grades 11 and 12. Duties include creating lessons on the medium of photography, providing technical instruction, leading critiques, lecturing on the history of photography, and participating in annual departmental jury critiques.
Candidates must have an in-depth knowledge of both analogue and digital photography processes and applications. In particular the black and white wet darkroom, 35mm analogue camera functions, digital printing, Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, studio lighting, the history of photography, and knowledge of contemporary art.
This position will be solely responsible for studio maintenance of the black and white darkroom and BSA’s inventory of 35mm film cameras and photographic equipment. In addition, this position will provide assistance to seniors in photographing their portfolios for applying to art colleges.
A successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for teaching and an ongoing commitment to their own studio practice through evidence of a portfolio and CV. This position is ideal for a working artist who feels strongly about public arts education and can foster connections between the Visual Arts Department and the Baltimore arts community.
