Capitol Hill Arts Workshop Darkroom Residency is still accepting applications! The open call closes at midnight on 8/31.

The Darkroom Residency is open to artists working in any medium as long as the proposed project is darkroom-based. The residency includes free access to our darkroom, free chemistry for silver gelatin processing and printing and a $200 stipend. We seek an established artist with photography as a central practice whose work engages with issues of Diversity and Equity, and Social Justice and with other, cross-disciplinary art production, such as studio art, performance, installation and/or computing in the arts, for a tenured position as Associate Professor or beginning Full Professor. Teaching will encompass the entire curricular range from large introductory lecture and intermediate lecture courses, to intermediate production and technique courses on lens-based media production (still and/or moving) to advanced undergraduate production and critique courses on photographic strategies, advanced techniques, and artistic research, and graduate courses for MFA students in a program structured around concepts, theories, and practices. Media, whose faculty includes scholars and artists, is part of the Visual Arts Department, one of the few in the nation to offer both a MFA and a PhD in Art History and Criticism, which also includes a concentration in Art Practice. The department offers undergraduate majors in Art History, Interdisciplinary Computing in Art, Speculative Design and Studio as well as Media. We expect the new faculty to provide leadership in further developing and enriching the Media major, the Photography minor, and other Visual Arts programs.

Exhibition date: Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018 from 7 to 10 P.M. at the Grey Matter Gallery in the Cork Factory in Baltimore’s Station North Arts District

Shining Light is the first annual juried exhibition sponsored by Thao Nguyen Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention by providing scholarships to high school graduating seniors and college students whose art helps treat or bring awareness to mental illness.

This year’s theme:  Shining Light. Shining light on something can reveal what was previously hidden or it can mean bringing lightness/levity/joy to the despondent or to the world. Shining light may also refer to a person or an idea that inspires or to any outward expression of illumination and/or hope. We look forward to your creative, inspired interpretation of this year’s theme.

Work can be any 2D or 3D medium so long as it can be hung on the wall. If framed, work should be wired and ready to hang. If unframed, it must be ok to pin the work.
