CALL FOR ARTISTS VENDORS: Valley Fest 2019, Arlington, VA

EVENT: Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019, 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.


Valley Fest is looking for artists to sell their creations at our large outdoor festival. Over 2,500 people attended last year. 

Valley Fest was conceived from area leaders who wish to foster the growing Four Mile Run Valley as an active arts and community hub. This area is rife with significant cultural and civic groups such as Theatre on the Run, Jane Franklin Dance and Arlington Cultural Affairs. Please help us celebrate this occasion on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2019, 12:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Area musicians and performing artists will set the stage for entertainment, local artists will showcase their pieces and food trucks will offer tasty delights. A kid’s zone will keep the family busy and for the adults, beer will be in abundance.

Selected artists will be notified by Sept. 4, 2019 and may sell their artwork to the public. There is a $25.00 vendor fee required to take part in the event made payable after you are notified of selection. Vendors will be provided with a table, two chairs and a table cloth. Tents are not provided but you are welcome to bring one.

 CALL FOR ARTISTS: 2019 Athenaeum Invitational, Alexandria, VA
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Aug. 1, 2019


The Athenaeum Invitational celebrates the visual arts of Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia and West Virginia in the Athenaeum Gallery in Alexandria, VA. It is a theme-based event featuring the works of both specially-invited artists who have exhibited in the Athenaeum Gallery in the past, as well as works selected through a call for submissions open to anyone living or working in VA, DC, MD or WV. A $1,500 prize for the best work will be awarded to an invited artist, a $1,000 prize will be awarded to an artist from the open call, a $500 prize will be awarded based on core concept and game design and a viewers’ choice award of $500 will be determined by popular vote.

The theme of the 2019 Athenaeum Invitational is “Board: out of our minds!” The show will be held Sept. 12 – Nov. 10, 2019 with the opening reception on Sunday, Sept. 15.

ARLINGTON ARTS CENTER’S STUDIO RESIDENCY PROGRAM NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS, Arlington, VADEADLINE: Submit by Sept. 9, 2019APPLICATION FEE: $35
Arlington Arts Center’s resident artist program provides subsidized studio space in a supportive environment that encourages interaction, dialogue and exploration. The program gives artists the opportunity to develop their practice in a community with other artists and alongside AAC’s critically acclaimed exhibitions and extensive educational programs. All studios have excellent sunlight, work sinks and high ceilings with 24-hour access, 365 days a year. Facilities include a shared lounge area, kitchen and bathroom. 
Contemporary visual artists working in all media are welcome to apply. The program is not designed for commercial artists. After an initial review by current resident artists and staff, AAC staff will conduct interviews with a final short list of candidates. Selection criteria will include artistic merit, potential for community engagement and diversity of media and artistic representation. 
The following studios will be available in late 2019 and early 2020: 
Private Studio (Available Dec. 1, 2019)Approximately 304 sq. ft.Available for two-year lease, with potential to renew up to twice upon approval (total potential term of up to six years) Studio rent: $380.62 per month (plus $30 utilities per month)Artists must pay security deposit of one month’s rent. Meow Wolf is an arts collective and production company that creates and operates immersive, interactive multimedia experiences that transport audiences of all ages into fantastical realms of storytelling.

Founded in 2008 by a small group of artists, writers, musicians and makers looking to create an egalitarian space for artistic expression, Meow Wolf’s first exhibits were created in warehouses on shoestring budgets. Since then, Meow Wolf has created 25 exhibits all over the United States and worked with hundreds of artists. The ethos of the company is often described as radically inclusive, where people are given the space to be expressive, creative and effective. ARTIST IN RESIDENCY: Live/Work Studio Space for Artists and Writers, Lake Chapala, Mexico

The 360 XOCHI QUETZAL Artist and Writer’s Residency Program is located on Lake Chapala, the largest lake in Mexico, where the perfect year-round climate and stunning lake and mountain views have long established the region as an international artist mecca. Residents will be inspired by the natural beauty, history and culture of this special part of central Mexico. Chapala is located 25 minutes from Guadalajara International Airport and 45 minutes from Guadalajara, one of the largest cities in Mexico boasting abundant cultural resources; museums, galleries, theatre and artist supplies. Xochi Quetzal is the Aztec goddess of creativity and fertility and protector of artisans. She is sure to inspire you during your stay!

This program offers four live/work spaces for 1 – 6 months. To apply, just check out the website for descriptions and pictures of the spaces and available dates. This is a perfect opportunity to finish a manuscript, prepare for a show, collect your thoughts, or plan your next body of work. Read some of the interviews with creatives who have come to Chapala for a personal residency.

The goal of this program is to support artists, writers and musicians who would benefit from having uninterrupted time to devote to their creativity. By providing affordable live/work spaces in a beautiful and culturally rich area, the sponsor hopes that residents can make artistic progress without the stress and distractions of daily life.

National and international visual artists, photographers, writers, playwrights, new media makers and musicians over the age of 23 are welcome to plan a personal residency. Two of the live/work spaces can accommodate couples or two-person collaborative teams.
