National Geographic is looking for an intern to help our editorial team develop, storyboard, and edit vertical stories for Instagram, Google AMP, and other emerging platforms. The intern with this team should excel at working across mediums, with a strong eye for photography, video, graphic design, and text. You should have fresh ideas for how to make our stories work in these spaces.
As an intern, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with editors, producers, and photographers across National Geographic.
Write, design, and photo/video edit to create engaging, editorially-based tap stories.
Work closely with editorial teams and Nat Geo photographers throughout the story process, from pitching ideas to final QC.
Develop forward-thinking approaches to storytelling on mobile platforms and test new visual experiences.
Support the Deputy Director of Mobile Storytelling in reviewing and providing feedback to mobile producers on vertical content delivered across Nat Geo.
What you bring to the role…
Strong editing skills in Adobe Premiere and motion graphics in After Effects.
Strong skills in journalism and interest in editorial.
Comfortable working in a collaborative team environment.
In-depth understanding of mobile platforms, such as Instagram.
Strong, discerning eye for photos and video, and a good sense of how to weave a visual narrative.
Ability to write, edit, and refine text.
Ability to multi-task and ensure deadlines are met.

Daybreak is the 2nd annual juried exhibition sponsored by Thao Nguyen Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention by providing scholarships to high school graduating seniors and college students whose art helps treat or bring awareness to mental illness.
This year’s theme: ‘Daybreak’ makes us think of light from darkness: going from the world cloaked in obscurity to the world more fully seen and appreciated. The sun is beyond human control but it warms and illuminates the world; still, we lose sight of it every day. Sometimes sleep carries us through the night and we awake refreshed: sometimes we don’t sleep and still daybreak comes, bringing brighter color into our lives… and hope.

NEW! CALL TO ARTISTS: Mural Proposals, Kingman Island, Washington, DC

Living Classrooms Foundation of the National Capital Region (Living Classrooms) seeks a muralist to create conservation-themed murals for five cement bridge panels along the Benning Road Ethel Kennedy Bridge near the Benning Road entrance to Kingman and Heritage Islands. Kingman Island is an incredible natural resource and recreation area and was designated a state conservation area by Mayor Muriel Bowser in 2018.
The purpose of this project is to beautify access to the Islands by creating an attractive passage, while simultaneously increasing stewardship from the local community. The commissioned murals are planned for the areas of the bridge closest to the Island’s entrance. In addition to the murals, community members will be stenciling wildlife images on panels along the full span of the bridge. Note that the mural sites will be prepped by Living Classrooms staff and volunteers.

The museum invites Virginia resident artists ages 18 or older to apply for consideration.
First presented in spring 2017, the inaugural Homeward Bound shared the work of more than 55 selected artists. The first-prize winner was Richmond-based artist Genesis Chapman, who was awarded a solo exhibition at the Taubman from March to August 2018.

Hamiltonian Artists, a 12-year-old visual arts organization based in Washington, D.C., is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization into its next chapter. Dr. Paul So, Professor of Physics at George Mason University, founded Hamiltonian Artists and the affiliated Hamiltonian Gallery in July 2007. As a scientist with a passion for the arts, he wanted to create an incubator program based on the post-doc experience found in the science field. Hamiltonian Artists is most notable for its esteemed Fellowship program, an incubator for emerging visual artists that fosters career mentorship and professional development. Since its founding, over 50 artists have gone through the program, working with nationally and internationally recognized mentors. In addition, Hamiltonian Artists’ public programs provide wide support for the vibrant Washington, D.C. artist community.
Hamiltonian Gallery provides an exhibition venue for the Fellows to show new work and to connect with collectors and the market. The gallery is regularly accepted into prestigious art fairs such as Pulse (Miami) and Volta (New York City) and has notable success in placing artworks into private collections. The Gallery also coordinates off-site exhibitions. In June 2019, the Board of Directors of Hamiltonian Artists decided to merge the two organizations into one unified nonprofit organization.
The incoming Executive Director will be the first to lead this new merged organization, will be responsible for the continuation of the Fellowship and will work with staff and volunteers to continue producing exhibitions and programs that advance the mission to support emerging artists in the Mid-Atlantic region.
